Disappearing Aral Sea

23 Oct 2017

Aral Sea was one of the largest inner land ocean located between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Initially, it was 428km South to North and 235km West to East. It was half size of the state California and more than half of South Korea. Around this area, in order to boost cotton and crop cultivation, people changed the water channel. As a matter of a fact, the containing water decreased drastically and now over 90% of the Aral Sea vanished. As water level went down, the salinity went too high that sea creatures died fast. The disaster did not end here. Due to salt dusts, animals and human got sick and killed. The sea became desert and the experts assumed that the Aral Sea will disappear completely within few years.
